My Take On Our Hunger Strike
I am participating in a six-day hunger strike. At first I wasn’t very keen on the idea, because I don’t believe wholesale in the non-violent strategy of bringing pain to yourself in order to make others feel compassion. I don’t think the racist power structure is capable of compassion.
The more I thought about it, I figured that it would be the right thing for me to do, since we were instructed to fast before temazcallis (sweat lodges) and ceremonias. So I see it more as a personal mission than as a way to solicit sympathy.
Anyway, I’ll be fasting until Sunday.
Those who might want to show support could come out to support at the places and times listed below. Bilingual members or supporters are needed to call our community supoorters. If you could commit to 20-50 people per night, we might be able to contribute to the Saturday and Sunday turn out. Please let me know if you can call
Here are the places (I won’t be there the whole time due to family and work, but I should be there everday from about 10 to noon at the very least)
