Thinking
I might turn Spare Thoughts into something semi-regular, semi-sarcastic (kinda like me).
Hopeful
Last Friday Handy Manny won the “Citizen” of the Year Award in the little town in which he does odd jobs. It is my hope that with his new-found influence he will push for a just immigration reform and citizenship for all, especially now that we know his immigration status allows him to organize without threat of deportation.
Frustrated, In Pain and Satisfied
I had a little pain in my pinky about two weeks ago. Thought it might be carpal tunnel. On Thursday, all of sudden, it seemed to be a fracture. Didn’t want to spend $200 for them to tell me to put some tape on it. Researched it. Think its a stress fracture. Taped it up, and seems to be healing nicely. Operation Scam System Accomplished.
Humored
Apparently, the stimulus figures were released, and a non-existent district was listed as a major beneficiary of the funds. Conservatives went nuts. Still not as bad as Bush winning with non-existent popular votes.
Wondering if this is news
A new study finds university students in coed housing are 2.5 times more likely to binge drink every week. And no surprise, they’re also likely to have more sexual partners, the study found. Also, pornography use was higher among students in coed dorms. A separate study in 2007 found that college exacerbates the innate predisposition of some young adults to become heavy alcohol users. In effect, going to college can fuel alcoholism.
Remember when Repubs wanted to count ketchup as a vegetable so that they wouldn’t have to provide real nutrition to our children? That same group is offering to advertise this in the barrios as a way to offer affirmative action, without actually offering it. Not really, but wouldn’t put it past ‘em.
Confused
There was a lot of talk about Obama’s visit to China, and whether or not he would bring up their secret “black prisons.”
“Liu Yuhong’s family had a quarrel with their landlord. Now her parents are in a re-education camp and she miscarried after being beaten in a ”black jail”, writes John Garnaut in Beijing.”
I was wondering if the Chinese would bring up the US’s not-so-secret black (and brown) prisons.
